Dead to the Law – Married to the Risen Christ | Romans 7:4 KJV
“Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead.”
— Romans 7:4 KJVDeath breaks the Law's hold. A widow is freed from the law of her husband by his death. Paul applies the same principle: we died with Christ — Galatians 2:20 — and that death severed our legal relationship to the Law. We are no longer married to the Law. We are married to the risen Christ.
The purpose of this new marriage: that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Not the fruit of legal compliance under threat of condemnation, but the fruit of a loving relationship with the risen Christ. The Spirit produces this fruit naturally — Galatians 5:22-23.
You are not married to the Law. You are united to the risen Christ. Let that relationship produce fruit in your life — naturally, freely, joyfully, without striving. A bride does not strive to please — she loves.
