Abraham – Justified by Faith Before the Law Existed | Romans 4:1-5 KJV
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
— Romans 4:5 KJVPaul reaches back to Abraham to prove justification by faith. Abraham was declared righteous in Genesis 15:6 — before circumcision (Genesis 17), before the Law (Exodus 20), before any religious act. He simply believed God. That settled it.
If Abraham was justified by works, he could boast before God. But he had nothing to boast about before God. His righteousness was counted — credited, imputed — not earned. This is the pattern for every person who is justified in any age: believe God.
Abraham is your father in faith — not by blood, but by the same believing. Follow his example: believe God, and it is counted for righteousness. Faith is the only currency that purchases what grace freely offers.
