Colossians 1:27 – Christ in You, the Hope of Glory | KJV Bible Study

Week 4 · Day 27-2 · 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

“Which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

— Colossians 1:27 KJV

Four words that constitute the supreme summary of the grace-age mystery: Christ in you. Not Christ for you only — though that is gloriously true. Not Christ with you — though His presence never departs. Christ IN you — the risen, glorified, omnipotent Son of God dwelling within the ordinary believer as the guarantee of ultimate glory.

Colossians 1:25-27 provides the context: Paul describes his stewardship of the word of God to 'fulfil' it — to bring it to its completion, its full disclosure. The mystery hidden from ages and from generations but NOW made manifest to the saints is the mystery Paul is uniquely commissioned to proclaim. And the content of that mystery, the riches of its glory among the Gentiles, is summarized in five words: 'which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.'

Israel's hope in the Old Testament was Messianic: the Messiah coming TO them, reigning over them, establishing His Kingdom among them. This was external and national. The grace-age mystery is entirely different: the Messiah coming INTO the individual believer, indwelling the body of every person who has believed the gospel, making His residence within the human soul. This is not the Temple of Jerusalem housing the Shekinah glory; this is your body housing the risen Christ — a reality more intimate and more astonishing than anything the Old Testament saints could have anticipated.

✂ Right Division

'The hope of glory' indicates that the indwelling Christ is both the present reality and the future guarantee. His presence within is the deposit, the down payment, the guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5 — 'earnest of the Spirit') of the coming glorification. The Spirit who indwells the mortal body now will raise the mortal body in the resurrection (Romans 8:11). Christ in you now is the certain promise of glory then. This is why Paul says in Romans 8:18 that 'the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.'

The practical implication of Christ in you is inexhaustibility. You are never without resource. You are never without wisdom — 'Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge' (Colossians 2:3). You are never without strength — 'I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me' (Philippians 4:13). You are never without comfort — 'the God of all comfort' (2 Corinthians 1:3). Every need you face is a need that the indwelling Christ is fully equipped to meet.

✦ Application for Today

Begin every morning with the declaration: Christ is in me — the hope of glory. Then draw on that indwelling resource throughout the day. Before a difficult conversation: Christ is in me. Before a fearful task: Christ is in me. Before a temptation: Christ is in me — and He is stronger than anything I face. The Christian life is not achieved by trying harder but by drawing more deeply on the One who indwells you.

You carry within you the treasure of the ages — the risen Christ, the hope of glory. No circumstance, no enemy, no failure can remove Him. He chose to make your body His dwelling place. Live from that inexhaustible resource today. Amen.
