Keys of the Kingdom – What Did Jesus Give Peter? | Matthew 16:19 KJV
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven.”
— Matthew 16:19 KJVThe keys of the Kingdom have been used to justify papal authority, spiritual warfare techniques, and institutional Church power. But right division reveals that these keys were given to Peter specifically, in the context of Israel's Kingdom program — not to a religious institution for all time.
Peter used the keys at Pentecost — Acts 2 — opening the Kingdom offer to Israel, and in Acts 10 — opening the door to Gentiles in the transition. The keys served their purpose. For the Church age, our authority is in Christ's name — Ephesians 1:21.
You need no papal key to access God. Christ is the door — John 10:9 — by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. The door is open. Walk through by faith today.
