Law's Shadows vs Grace's Reality – Colossians 2:17 KJV

Week 2 · Day 14-1 · 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

“Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

— Colossians 2:17 KJV

Shadows versus substance. The entire Levitical system — sacrifices, feasts, new moons, Sabbaths — were shadows cast by the coming reality. A shadow has the shape of the real thing but no substance of its own. When the real thing arrives, the shadow becomes unnecessary.

✂ Right Division

Christ is the substance. The Passover lamb was a shadow — Christ is the Lamb of God. The Day of Atonement was a shadow — Christ is the once-for-all High Priest. The tabernacle was a shadow — Christ is the true Tabernacle. Every shadow points to Him.

✦ Application

You have the substance — Christ Himself. Do not return to the shadows. Every feast, every sacrifice, every ordinance pointed to the glorious reality you now possess. Celebrate the substance, not the shadow.
