Philippians 4:19 – My God Shall Supply All Your Need | KJV Bible Study

Week 4 · Day 27-1 · 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:19 KJV

Philippians 4:19 is a promise with a context — and the context is generosity. Understanding why Paul makes this declaration to the Philippians specifically illuminates the principle that governs the promise for every grace-age believer.

The Philippian church had distinguished itself by its consistent financial partnership with Paul's ministry. Verse 15 notes that 'no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.' When Paul was in Thessalonica, they sent to his need more than once. When Paul wrote this letter from prison, they had sent Epaphroditus with a gift that Paul describes as 'an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God' (verse 18). Their generosity was not occasional or convenient; it was consistent, sacrificial, and directed toward the advancement of the gospel.

Into this context of proven generosity, Paul declares verse 19 — not as a general encouragement but as a specific promise grounded in a specific principle: those who supply the needs of God's servants will find that God supplies their own needs. This is not the prosperity gospel's transactional formula; it is the grace-age reality that God takes note of sacrificial giving and responds with His own generous provision. The promise is not 'God will make you wealthy' but 'God will supply ALL your need' — every genuine need, comprehensively addressed.

✂ Right Division

The measure of the supply is the detail that elevates this promise beyond all human provision: 'according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.' Not according to the minimum required. Not according to what is convenient. According to God's OWN riches in glory — unsearchable riches (Ephesians 3:8), riches of grace (Ephesians 1:7), riches of His glory (Colossians 1:27). The standard of God's supply is His own inexhaustible wealth, accessed through Christ Jesus. This transforms every prayer for provision from a tentative request into a confident claim grounded in the nature of the Giver.

'All your need' encompasses every dimension of human need: physical (food, shelter, health), financial (provision for daily life and ministry), emotional (peace, comfort, courage), relational (community, support, reconciliation), and spiritual (growth, wisdom, assurance). Not some needs. All needs. The God who counts the hairs of your head (Matthew 10:30) attends to the full breadth of your need with the full breadth of His resources.

✦ Application for Today

Name a specific current need. Then stand on Philippians 4:19 with the full weight of its context: My God — the personal, covenant God — SHALL supply — future certain, not hypothetical — THIS specific need — according to HIS riches in glory — by Christ Jesus. Give generously. Pray confidently. Trust the God whose supply exceeds your need by the measure of His own infinite resources.

The God who gave His Son will freely give with Him all things (Romans 8:32). He who did not spare the greatest gift will not withhold the lesser ones. My God shall supply all your need. Trust Him. Give freely. Live generously. Amen.
