Post #10: Water Baptism in Acts vs. the Body of Christ | KJV Right Division (Week 1)
Post 10 · Water Baptism in Acts vs. the Body of Christ
"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." — 1 Corinthians 1:17 (KJV)
Who? Paul writing to the Corinthian church — the apostle explicitly de-emphasizing water baptism for the Grace-Age Body.
Dispensation: Grace Age — the one baptism for the Body of Christ is spiritual (1 Cor 12:13), not water.
Key: Paul separates water baptism from the gospel — if baptism were necessary for salvation, separating it from the gospel would be fatal error. He cannot mean that.

Water baptism was a Jewish rite of transition — signifying identification with John's message, then with Jesus's Kingdom program. Throughout Acts it accompanied salvation in the Jewish/transitional context. But Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles, explicitly states he was not sent to baptize but to preach the gospel. Ephesians 4:5 lists 'one baptism' for the Body — and 1 Corinthians 12:13 identifies it as the baptism of the Spirit, placing us in the Body. This does not make water baptism wrong as a church practice, but it is not the mark of salvation for Grace-Age believers.
Application: Look up every occurrence of 'baptism' in Paul's prison epistles (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon). How many times does water baptism appear? What does the one baptism of Ephesians 4:5 refer to? Let the absence speak.

Prayer: Lord, we are grateful that we are sealed in Christ by Your Spirit from the moment of faith. Help us to understand the spiritual baptism that placed us in Your Body and never confuse ceremony with salvation. Amen.
