Post #17: The Law vs. Grace: Not Mixed | KJV Right Division (Week 1)
Post 17 · The Law vs. Grace: Not Mixed
"Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." — Galatians 5:4 (KJV)
Who? Galatian Gentile believers being pressured by Judaizers to add circumcision and Law-keeping to faith.
Dispensation: Grace Age — mixing Law and Grace nullifies both; Paul calls it falling from grace.
Key: "Fallen from grace" = abandoned the Grace system for the Law system; not loss of salvation but loss of the standing that grace provides.

Galatians is Paul's sharpest letter because the issue is the most serious: adding Law to Grace. The Galatians were not being taught to abandon Christ — they were being taught to add Moses to Christ. Paul calls this 'another gospel' (Gal 1:6-7) and pronounces a double anathema on those who preach it (Gal 1:8-9). The reason is logical: if any Law-keeping contributes to justification, then Christ's death is unnecessary (Gal 2:21). Law and Grace operate on different principles. Law says 'do and live'; Grace says 'it is done — believe and live.' These two systems cannot be mixed without destroying both.
Application: Identify three ways Law-and-Grace mixing appears in the churches around you (e.g., tithing as a command, Sabbath observance, dietary rules as spiritual). For each one, find a Pauline verse that addresses it. Practice the skill of gracious correction.

Prayer: Lord, keep us firmly planted in the soil of grace. When legalism creeps in — from others or from our own hearts — remind us that Christ is become of no effect to those who seek justification by law. May we live fully in the freedom You purchased. Amen.
