Post #170: Water Baptism for Salvation – Is It Required? | KJV Right Division (Week 7)
Post 170 · Day 43-2: Water Baptism for Salvation Today?
"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." — 1 Corinthians 1:17 (KJV)
Common Error: Teaching that water baptism is necessary for salvation (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16), confusing Israel's transitional water baptism with the Grace Age Gospel.
Right Division Correction: Paul — the apostle to the Gentiles and the revealer of the Grace Age mystery — explicitly separates baptism from the Gospel (1 Cor 1:17). The Gospel that saves is defined in 1 Cor 15:1-4: death, burial, resurrection — no water involved. Acts 2:38 is Peter preaching to Israel under transitional conditions.
Water baptism in the Gospels and early Acts was the public declaration of allegiance to the coming Kingdom — appropriate for Israel in that transitional period. Paul's baptism for the Grace Age is spiritual: baptism into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:13). Water baptism today is a beautiful public testimony of faith already received — an outward symbol, not an inward cause of salvation.
