Post #174: Lordship Salvation vs. Free Grace | KJV Right Division (Week 7)

Post 174 · Day 44-3: Lordship Salvation vs Free Grace

"But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." — Romans 4:5 (KJV)
Common Error (Lordship Salvation): Teaching that a person is not truly saved unless they commit to obey Christ as Lord, surrender all sin, and demonstrate ongoing life-change — making salvation conditionally dependent on discipleship.
Right Division Correction: The Gospel is "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). Faith is the instrument; Christ is the object. Repentance (metanoia = change of mind about Christ, not primarily behavioral change) and faith go together. Fruit of salvation is evidence, not condition. Demanding pre-salvation behavioral commitment adds works to grace (Gal 2:16).

Lordship salvation, however well-intentioned, ultimately asks sinners to "clean up" before or as part of salvation — reversing the order of grace. We are not saved because we surrender; we surrender because we are saved. The thief on the cross (Luke 23:43) believed and was saved — no behavioral track record, no formal commitment — only faith in Christ. This does not minimize discipleship; it correctly positions it as the fruit, not the root.

Prayer: Lord, let the simplicity of the Gospel never be complicated by human additions. Faith in Christ alone — that is the Gospel. Amen.
