Post #179: Infant Baptism and Scripture | KJV Right Division (Week 7)

Post 179 · Day 46-2: Clergy-Laity Distinction in NT?

"But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren." — Matthew 23:8 (KJV)
Common Error: Creating a sacred/secular divide where a professional clergy class mediates between God and laypeople — inherited more from church tradition than from Pauline ecclesiology.
Right Division Correction: In the Grace Age, every believer is a priest (1 Pet 2:9 principle), indwelt by the same Spirit, equally sealed, with equal access to God through Christ. Elders, deacons, and gifted teachers serve the body — they do not replace the priesthood of all believers. All are brethren; all are ministers.

The NT recognizes function-based leadership (elders/overseers, deacons) but never a separate caste of professional "priests" mediating between God and the congregation. The Nicolaitan error — "conquering the laity" (Rev 2:6) — is the spirit of clergy domination that Christ hates. Every member of the Body has a spiritual gift (1 Cor 12), and every gift is needed. The "clergy" are not more spiritual — they are simply differently gifted and accountable.

Prayer: Lord, You have made us all ministers and priests. Help every member of Your Body to function in their gift for the glory of the whole. Amen.
