Post #184: Arminianism and Grace | KJV Right Division (Week 7)
Post 184 · Day 48-1: Confession to Priests?
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." — 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
Catholic Practice Error: Teaching that sacramental confession to a priest is required for mortal sins to be forgiven — that absolution is dispensed through human priestly authority.
Right Division Correction: Confession is to God (1 John 1:9), not to a human priest. In the Grace Age, every believer is a priest (1 Pet 2:9 principle), with direct access for confession and forgiveness. The authority Christ gave the disciples (John 20:23) was a transitional, apostolic declaration — not an ongoing priestly power to dispense forgiveness.
The stunning promise of 1 John 1:9 requires only one party besides the sinner: God. He alone is "faithful and just to forgive." Confession to a priest inserts a fallible human into a divine transaction that the New Testament consistently depicts as direct and personal. Grace Age believers confess to God directly, receive forgiveness directly, and are cleansed directly — the priestly veil was torn at Calvary, not re-hung in the confessional.

Prayer: Father, we confess to You directly — and receive Your faithful, just forgiveness directly. No intermediary but Christ. Amen.
