Post 187 · Day 49-1: Eternal Security vs Perseverance of the Saints
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." — Philippians 1:6 (KJV)
Eternal Security (Grace): God secures the believer — the guarantee is God's faithfulness, not the believer's performance.
Perseverance of the Saints (Calvinist): The elect will necessarily persevere — if you fall away, you were never saved. Subtle but significant difference.
Perseverance of the Saints (Calvinist): The elect will necessarily persevere — if you fall away, you were never saved. Subtle but significant difference.
Perseverance of the Saints can quietly introduce assurance-destroying doubt: "I sinned greatly — maybe I was never saved." Eternal Security rests on God's unchangeable promise: He who began the work will finish it. The believer may backslide, grieve the Spirit, and suffer loss at the Bema — but their salvation is never in question. This is not a license to sin — it is a fortress of security from which the believer can serve without fear.

Prayer: Lord, Your faithfulness is the ground of our security — not our performance. We rest in what You began and will complete. Amen.
