Post #189: Annihilationism vs. Eternal Punishment | KJV Right Division (Week 7)
Post 189 · Day 49-3: Legalism in Modern Churches
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." — Galatians 5:1 (KJV)
Legalism: Adding human rules, traditions, or Mosaic commands to the Gospel as requirements for spirituality, acceptance, or growth — measuring Christianity by external conformity rather than internal transformation.
Grace Correction: Paul calls legalism a "yoke of bondage" and urges believers to stand fast in liberty. The fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) — not a list of external rules — is the standard of Grace Age maturity. Standards may flow from grace but must never be confused with the means of grace.
Legalism is deadly not because it promotes wrong behavior but because it attaches righteousness to performance — gradually replacing "Christ in you, the hope of glory" with "I in me, the hope of acceptance." It produces guilt-driven religion, comparison-based spirituality, and ultimately either pride (if you succeed) or despair (if you fail). The Galatians were bewitched by it — modern churches are no less susceptible.

Prayer: Lord, keep us free in the liberty of Christ. Let standards serve us rather than enslave us, and let grace always be the motivation. Amen.
