Post #215: Fasting – Is It for the Church Today? | KJV Right Division (Week 8)

Post 215 · Day 55-4: Praise and Worship Biblically

"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." — Ephesians 5:19-20 (KJV)
Biblical Worship: Internal (heart) and external (speech, song). Theologically content-rich — psalms (Scripture), hymns (doctrinal praise), spiritual songs (Spirit-prompted expression).
Target: "To the Lord" — directed to God, not performance for an audience.

Biblical worship is not a musical style — it is a heart posture expressed through theologically substantive praise. The three categories Paul lists — psalms, hymns, spiritual songs — suggest variety and richness, not uniformity. The key is "making melody in your heart to the Lord." Worship can happen in corporate assembly or in a car commute. Its content must be truth (John 4:24) and its motivation must be love. Let the Word of Christ dwell richly in your worship (Col 3:16).

Application: Evaluate the worship music you consume. Does it have theological substance? Does it direct your affection to God? Does it align with rightly divided Scripture? Add at least one hymn to your devotional life this week for its doctrinal depth.

Prayer: Lord, let our worship be in Spirit and truth — heartfelt and doctrinally rich. May everything we sing build us up in You. Amen.
