Post #217: The Joy of the Lord in the Grace Age | KJV Right Division (Week 8)

Post 217 · Day 56-2: Humility vs Pride in Ministry

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." — Philippians 2:3 (KJV)
Root of Pride: Self-promotion, competitive ministry, platform-seeking — all rooted in the ego that the cross is meant to crucify.
Model: Christ (Phil 2:5-8) — who made Himself of no reputation. The greatest ministry model is the towel and basin (John 13:1-17).

Ministry pride is among the subtlest sins because it masquerades as zeal. "Vainglory" — kenodoxia — means empty glory, fame-seeking. When ministry becomes about the minister's reputation rather than Christ's glory, the power of God departs even if the platform remains. Paul considered himself "less than the least of all saints" (Eph 3:8) — and God used him most. Humility in ministry is not self-deprecation; it is accurate self-assessment in light of grace received.

Application: Examine your ministry motivations honestly: Do you serve when no one is watching? Do you celebrate others' ministry successes as much as your own? Do you seek platforms or people? Ask God to search your heart (Ps 139:23-24).

Prayer: Lord, make us nothing — so You may be everything. Strip away every vestige of vainglory, and fill us with the humility of Christ. Amen.
