Post #243: Preach the Word In Season and Out | KJV Right Division (Week 9)
Post 243 · Day 59-3: 2 Timothy 4:2 – Preach the Word In Season and Out
Who This Is For: Grace-age believers in the Body of Christ seeking to understand and live Paul's Gospel rightly divided.
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” — 2 Timothy 4:2 KJV
This is Paul's final charge to Timothy — his last will and testament for faithful ministry. Preach the Word. Not a philosophy, not motivational content, not social commentary — the Word. And do it in season and out of season: when it is convenient and when it is not, when the audience is receptive and when it is hostile.
Right Division: Right Division: The 'word' Paul commands to be preached is specifically the Word committed to Paul — the mystery Gospel, the grace revelation (2 Timothy 1:13-14). Timothy is to hold fast to Paul's pattern of sound words. The exhortation 'reprove, rebuke, exhort' describes the full range of the Word's function — doctrine, correction, and encouragement — all grounded in Paul's specific teaching.
Application: Identify one biblical truth you have been reluctant to share because it was 'out of season' — because the moment seemed wrong, the person seemed hostile, or the topic seemed unpopular. Pray for courage to preach it anyway. The Word does not need favorable conditions to work — it is powerful in any season.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your Word rightly divided. Help us to study, understand, and live what You have revealed through the Apostle Paul for this age of grace. Give us boldness to share and faithfulness to guard what has been committed to our trust. In Christ's name. Amen.
