Post #27: Understanding Prophecy vs. Mystery | KJV Right Division (Week 1)
Post 27 · Understanding Prophecy vs. Mystery
"Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began." — Romans 16:25 (KJV)
Who? Paul closing Romans with a doxology that distinguishes his gospel (mystery) from Old Testament prophecy.
Dispensation: Grace Age — the mystery program runs parallel to prophecy but was hidden in God until Paul's revelation.
Key: Prophecy = foretold in the OT; Mystery = hidden from the OT, revealed through Paul. Both are God's Word; both are certain; they are not the same program.

Old Testament prophecy is the revealed program for Israel and the nations — kingdom, temple, land, throne, Messiah's coming in power. The mystery is entirely distinct: the Body of Christ, Jews and Gentiles equal in one spiritual organism, with a heavenly rather than earthly destiny. The prophets could not see the mystery because God hid it (Eph 3:9; Col 1:26). This means the Church is not in Daniel, not in Isaiah's restoration passages, not in Ezekiel's temple vision. Those are prophetic; this is mystery. Both will be fulfilled — on separate tracks, at appointed times. Rightly dividing prophecy from mystery eliminates massive interpretive confusion in both eschatology and ecclesiology.
Application: Read Isaiah 9:6-7 (prophecy — earthly Kingdom, David's throne) and Ephesians 3:1-11 (mystery — heavenly Body, revealed to Paul). Ask: Could Isaiah's readers have known about the Body of Christ? Why or why not? What does their silence about the mystery tell you about the two programs?

Prayer: God of both prophecy and mystery, You are the perfect Planner who holds all Your programs in sovereign hands. Help us to honor both Israel's prophetic hope and the Church's mystery calling without confusing what You have distinguished. Amen.
