Post 271 · Day 66-3: Jeremiah 31:31-33 – The New Covenant With Israel

Who This Is For: Grace-age believers in the Body of Christ seeking to understand prophecy rightly divided from Paul's epistles and the whole counsel of God.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.” — Jeremiah 31:31 KJV

God promises Israel a New Covenant — not like the Mosaic covenant that they broke. This new covenant will be written on their hearts, not stone tablets. God will be their God and they His people; all will know Him from least to greatest; sins will be forgiven and remembered no more.

Right Division: Right Division: The New Covenant in Jeremiah 31 is made with the house of Israel and the house of Judah — it is Israel's covenant, not the Body of Christ's. The Body of Christ benefits from the blood of the New Covenant (Luke 22:20) but is not a party to the Jeremiah 31 covenant. Hebrews applies the New Covenant to saved Hebrews; Paul's epistles describe the Body of Christ's new position. Right division keeps these separate: the New Covenant belongs to Israel's prophetic program; our position is 'in Christ' by grace through faith in Paul's mystery Gospel.

Application: Read Jeremiah 31:31-34 and marvel at God's covenantal faithfulness. Then read 2 Corinthians 3:6 where Paul calls himself a minister of the New Covenant — the same blood, the same forgiveness, applied to the Body of Christ in the grace age. The cross secured both programs simultaneously.

Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to behold wondrous things out of Thy law and prophecy. Give us wisdom to rightly divide what belongs to Israel and what belongs to the Body of Christ, that we may live with clarity and confidence in this age of grace. In Christ's name. Amen.
