Post 274 · Day 67-2: 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 – The Restrainer Taken Out of the Way

Who This Is For: Grace-age believers in the Body of Christ seeking to understand prophecy rightly divided from Paul's epistles and the whole counsel of God.
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 KJV

Something — or Someone — restrains the full manifestation of evil. When the Restrainer is removed, the Wicked One (Antichrist) is revealed. The mystery of iniquity already works, but it is held in check. The removal of the Restrainer precedes the Tribulation's unleashed wickedness.

Right Division: Right Division: The Restrainer is most likely the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ — the Church is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15) and the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13). When the Body of Christ is raptured, the restraining influence of the Spirit-indwelt Church is removed, and the man of sin is revealed. This is the strongest right-division argument for a pretribulation Rapture: the Church is the Restrainer, and the Restrainer must be removed before the Tribulation begins.

Application: You are part of the restraining force against evil in the world right now. Your presence, your prayers, your proclamation of the Gospel hold back the full tide of wickedness. Take this seriously: live as salt and light today. Your testimony matters more than you know.
Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to behold wondrous things out of Thy law and prophecy. Give us wisdom to rightly divide what belongs to Israel and what belongs to the Body of Christ, that we may live with clarity and confidence in this age of grace. In Christ's name. Amen.
