Post #278: Not Appointed to Wrath | KJV Right Division (Week 10)

Post 278 · Day 68-2: 1 Thessalonians 5:9 – Not Appointed to Wrath

Who This Is For: Grace-age believers in the Body of Christ seeking to understand prophecy rightly divided from Paul's epistles and the whole counsel of God.
“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:9 KJV

This verse is explicit: God's appointment for the Body of Christ is salvation, not wrath. The Tribulation is the pouring out of God's wrath upon the earth. The Body of Christ is not on the receiving end of that wrath — we are on the receiving end of salvation.

Right Division: Right Division: 1 Thessalonians 5:9 is a primary pretribulation Rapture text. If God has not appointed us to wrath, and the Tribulation is God's wrath, then the Body of Christ cannot be in the Tribulation. The Rapture delivers us before it begins. This also distinguishes between suffering in the grace age (which is normal — Philippians 1:29) and the Tribulation's divine wrath (which the Body of Christ is specifically exempted from). Different kinds of suffering, different dispensational categories.

Application: You are not appointed to wrath — you are appointed to salvation. Let this conviction replace any anxiety about end-times events. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 followed by 5:9-11 today as one continuous encouragement. Then do what verse 11 says: 'Comfort yourselves together, and edify one another.' Share this truth with a fellow believer today.
Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to behold wondrous things out of Thy law and prophecy. Give us wisdom to rightly divide what belongs to Israel and what belongs to the Body of Christ, that we may live with clarity and confidence in this age of grace. In Christ's name. Amen.
