Post #30: Paul's Unique Apostleship (Gal 1:11-12) | KJV Right Division (Week 2)

Post 30 · Paul's Unique Apostleship (Gal 1:11-12)

"But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." — Galatians 1:11-12 (KJV)
Who? Paul defending his apostleship to the Galatians — who were being told by Judaizers to follow Jerusalem's authority instead.
Dispensation: Grace Age — Paul's unique, direct, non-human source of revelation establishes his gospel's supreme authority for this age.
Key: Not from man, not taught by man — Paul's gospel came from the risen, glorified Christ; it supersedes everything received from the earthly ministry.

Paul's apostleship is unique in all of redemptive history. The Twelve walked with Jesus during His earthly ministry, heard the Kingdom teaching, received the Great Commission. Paul never met Jesus in the flesh. He received his gospel from the risen, glorified, exalted Christ in glory — a post-cross, post-resurrection, post-ascension revelation. This is why Paul can say his gospel was 'not after man' — it came from beyond the grave, from Christ at the right hand of the Father. The mystery he received was not merely post-Pentecost tradition; it was divine revelation of a previously-hidden truth. Paul's authority rests on this unique source.

Application: Read Galatians 1:11 through 2:10. Paul traces the independence of his gospel: he did not consult with Jerusalem immediately after his conversion (v.16-17), he went to Arabia (v.17), and when he did meet Peter three years later, it was a brief visit — not instruction (v.18-19). Why does this independence matter for the authority of the mystery? What does it tell us about Paul's epistles?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You appeared to Paul on the Damascus road and entrusted him with mysteries hidden from all previous ages. Thank You for the Bible that resulted from that encounter. Help us to receive Paul's revelation with the reverence it deserves. Amen.
