Post #330: Fight the Good Fight of Faith | KJV Right Division (Week 12)
Post 330 · Day 81-2: 1 Timothy 6:11-12 – Fight the Good Fight of Faith
“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” — 1 Timothy 6:11-12 KJV
Two commands: flee (evil things — verse 10's love of money) and follow (righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness). Then: fight the good fight of faith. The fight is not against flesh and blood but for the maintenance and exercise of faith. And lay hold on eternal life — not to earn it but to take hold of what you already possess.
Right Division: Right Division: 'Lay hold on eternal life' does not mean work for your salvation. Timothy already has eternal life (1 John 5:13 applies to all believers). 'Lay hold' means to take firm possession of, to live in the fullness of what you already have. This is the grace-age call: not striving to obtain life but actively possessing and experiencing the life you already hold. Stop living as if eternal life is theoretical — lay hold of it practically today.
