Post #339: Take Heed to Thyself and to the Doctrine | KJV Right Division (Week 12)
Post 339 · Day 83-3: 1 Timothy 4:16 – Take Heed to Thyself and to the Doctrine
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” — 1 Timothy 4:16 KJV
Double attention: to yourself (character, life, spiritual condition) and to the doctrine (the truth of Paul's Gospel). Continue in both. The promise: salvation — not justification, but preservation, sanctification, spiritual health — for yourself and your hearers. Doctrine is not abstract; it saves lives.
Right Division: Right Division: 'The doctrine' is Paul's — the grace-age body of teaching committed to Timothy's care. In a day of doctrinal confusion (fables and endless genealogies — 1 Timothy 1:4), Timothy is charged to hold the line on Pauline doctrine. The grace-age teacher's unique responsibility is guarding and transmitting the mystery Gospel: 'that good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us' (2 Timothy 1:14).
