Post #34: Grace vs. Works – Romans 11:6 | KJV Right Division (Week 2)

Post 34 · Redemption Defined (Eph 1:7)

"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace." — Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)
Who? Every believer in the Body of Christ — 'in whom we have' is present tense, complete possession.
Dispensation: Grace Age — redemption is not hoped for or earned; it is an accomplished, possessed reality for all who are in Christ.
Key: Redemption = ἀπολύτρωσις — a release obtained by paying a ransom; Christ's blood is the price that freed us from sin's bondage.

Redemption in Scripture means purchasing freedom from bondage by paying a price. The price is Christ's blood; the bondage is sin; the freedom is complete and permanent. Ephesians 1:7 says 'we HAVE' redemption — present tense, indicating a current possession, not a future hope contingent on continued faithfulness. The phrase 'according to the riches of his grace' signals that this redemption is not a minimal provision but an overflow of divine abundance. God did not redeem us on a budget — He poured out the fullness of His grace in the blood of His Son. Forgiveness of sins is the immediate consequence: our debt is paid in full.

Application: Look up the three Greek words for redemption in the New Testament: ἀπολύτρωσις (full release), λύτρωσις (the act of releasing), and ἀγοράζω (to purchase in the marketplace). Find one verse for each in Paul's letters. How do these three angles enrich your understanding of what Christ accomplished at the cross?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You paid the ransom for my soul. With Your own blood, You purchased my freedom from sin's bondage and God's judgment. I have redemption — not as a possibility but as a possession. Help me to live today as one who has been set free. Amen.
