Post #38: Romans 8 – No Condemnation in Christ | KJV Right Division (Week 2)

Post 38 · Sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13-14)

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession." — Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV)
Who? Gentile believers in Ephesus — the sequence: hear, believe, sealed. The Spirit is not a second experience but an immediate sealing at the moment of faith.
Dispensation: Grace Age — the sealing of the Spirit is a Grace-Age guarantee; it was not the consistent experience of Old Testament believers.
Key: "After that ye believed" — the Spirit seals at the moment of faith, not after a subsequent experience, prayer, or consecration.

The order in Ephesians 1:13 is important: (1) heard the gospel, (2) believed, (3) were sealed with the Holy Spirit. The sealing is simultaneous with belief — not a second blessing weeks or years later. The Holy Spirit is both the seal (marking God's ownership and guaranteeing the transaction) and the earnest (a down payment — a portion given now that guarantees the full amount later). This means the indwelling Spirit is God's guarantee of the believer's glorification. You cannot lose this seal because you didn't earn it — God applied it at the moment of faith as His own pledge. This is the security of the Grace-Age believer.

Application: Read Ephesians 1:13-14 alongside Romans 8:9 and 1 Corinthians 12:13. What three things does the Spirit do at salvation: (1) seal (Eph 1:13), (2) indwell (Rom 8:9), (3) baptize into the Body (1 Cor 12:13)? These all happen simultaneously at the moment of faith. What does this triple work tell you about the security and completeness of your salvation?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, You sealed me at the moment I believed — marking me as God's possession, guaranteeing my future, indwelling me permanently. I am secure not because I held on but because You were sent. Thank You. Amen.
