Post #52: The Hope of the Church (Col 1:27) | KJV Right Division (Week 2)

Post 52 · The Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." — Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
Who? Galatian believers being offered Law as the solution to the flesh — Paul's counter-offer is the Spirit's fruit, not law's demands.
Dispensation: Grace Age — the Spirit produces what Law could only demand; fruit is grown, not manufactured.
Key: Nine qualities, one fruit — singular. This is a single, integrated character expression of the Spirit's life, not nine separate achievements to pursue.

The fruit of the Spirit is singular — not 'fruits' but 'fruit.' These nine qualities are not nine separate spiritual disciplines but one integrated character that the Spirit grows in the yielded believer. Just as an apple tree doesn't strain to produce apples — it simply grows them as the natural output of its nature — the Spirit produces these qualities as the natural output of the indwelling life of Christ. Against such 'there is no law' — law has nothing to say against Spirit-produced character, and law cannot produce it. This is Paul's answer to the Galatian crisis: not law to control the flesh, but Spirit to transcend it. Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the flesh (v.16).

Application: Read Galatians 5:16-25 as a unit. Notice the contrast: works of the flesh (vv.19-21) are produced by self-effort and self-indulgence; fruit of the Spirit (vv.22-23) is produced by walking in/keeping in step with the Spirit. Which of the nine aspects of Spirit-fruit is most lacking in your life right now? Ask the Spirit — not your willpower — to produce more of it. What does 'walking in the Spirit' look like practically today?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, produce Your fruit in me. I cannot manufacture love, joy, or peace by trying harder. But You can grow them in me as I stay connected to the Vine. Teach me to walk in step with You. Amen.
