Post #53: Ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20) | KJV Right Division (Week 2)

Post 53 · Spiritual Gifts in the Body (1 Cor 12:4-7)

"Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal." — 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 (KJV)
Who? The Corinthian church — divided over spiritual gifts, particularly tongues. Paul corrects their hierarchical view of gifts.
Dispensation: Grace Age — gifts are given by sovereign grace, not earned or selected; every believer has at least one gift for the Body's benefit.
Key: The Trinity gives all gifts: the SPIRIT distributes, the LORD administers, GOD energizes. All gifts are equally supernatural and equally necessary.

1 Corinthians 12 corrects two errors: (1) elevating certain gifts (tongues) as marks of superior spirituality, and (2) dismissing certain members as unnecessary to the Body. Paul responds with the Trinity of gift-giving (v.4-6) and the purpose of gifts (v.7 — 'to profit withal' — for the benefit of all). Every gift is a manifestation of the same Spirit; none is more spiritual than another. The diversity of gifts reflects the wisdom of the Head (Christ) building a complete, functioning Body where every member is necessary. No gift elevates its possessor; every gift serves its recipients. This is the Grace-Age ethic of gifts: given freely, used humbly, for the good of the whole.

Application: Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-27. Paul's analogy of the body is striking: the 'more feeble' members are 'necessary' (v.22); the 'less honorable' receive 'more abundant honor' (v.23). How does this reverse typical church hierarchies? What is the gift or role you have been minimizing in yourself — or in another member? Ask God to show you how it is necessary to the Body.

Prayer: Lord of the Body, You gave each member gifts by Your sovereign grace. Help us to use ours humbly and celebrate others' gladly. May every gift glorify You and benefit the Body, with no member left unused and no member elevated above another. Amen.
