Post #61: Israel's Blindness in This Age (Rom 11) | KJV Right Division (Week 3)

Post 61 · Israel's Election – Chosen for Purpose (Deut 7:6)

"For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth." — Deuteronomy 7:6 (KJV)
Who? Moses speaking to Israel as they prepare to enter Canaan — God's election of Israel is for purpose, not superiority.
Dispensation: Law/Promise — Israel's election is permanent (Rom 11:28-29); God has not cast away His people.
Key: Israel's election is corporate (the nation) and purposive (to be God's vehicle of blessing to all nations — Gen 12:3). It is not revocable.

God's choice of Israel was not based on their size ('ye were the fewest of all people' — Deut 7:7) or their righteousness ('not for thy righteousness' — Deut 9:4-6) but on His own love and His covenant oath to the fathers (Deut 7:8). Israel was chosen to be God's special treasure — a nation of priests through which He would reveal Himself to the world and bring forth the Messiah. This election is corporate (the nation as a whole), not individual (every Israelite is not automatically saved). And it is permanent — 'the gifts and calling of God are without repentance' (Rom 11:29). God has not replaced Israel with the Church; He has set them aside temporarily while He builds the Body of Christ. Their restoration is certain.

Application: Read Romans 11:1-2 and 11:28-29. Paul asks and answers: 'Hath God cast away his people? God forbid.' (v.1). He says they are beloved for the fathers' sakes (v.28) and that God's gifts and calling are irrevocable (v.29). Why does Israel's permanent election matter for Grace-Age believers? What does it tell you about God's faithfulness to ALL His promises, including those He has made to you?

Prayer: Faithful God, You chose Israel and You have not abandoned them. Their temporary blindness is not permanent rejection — You will restore them. Let Your faithfulness to Israel strengthen our confidence in Your faithfulness to us. Amen.
