Post 62 · The Law as a Schoolmaster (Gal 3:24-25)
"Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster." — Galatians 3:24-25 (KJV)
Who? Jewish believers who had received the Law before coming to Christ — Paul explaining the Law's temporary and preparatory role.
Dispensation: Law (past role) to Grace (present reality) — the schoolmaster's job was to lead to Christ; once we are in Christ, the schoolmaster is no longer our authority.
Key: "Schoolmaster" (παιδαγωγός) = a slave who escorted children to school, not the teacher. The Law conducted sinners to Christ; it is not the teacher of redeemed believers.

The Law served a specific, temporary purpose: to reveal sin's magnitude (Rom 3:20; 7:13), to condemn the sinner, and to prepare the heart for the grace that Christ would bring. It was a 'schoolmaster' — a παιδαγωγός, a slave-tutor — not the ultimate teacher, but the one who escorted the child to the real teacher. Now that faith has come (in Christ), the schoolmaster's job is done. We are no longer under his authority. The Law was never meant to save — it was meant to expose the need for a Savior and direct the desperate sinner to the grace of Christ. Once in Christ, we are led not by the external Law but by the internal Spirit (Rom 8:14).
Application: Read Romans 3:19-20 and Galatians 3:19-25. What specific job did the Law perform according to these passages? (1) It stops every mouth (Rom 3:19), (2) gives knowledge of sin (3:20), (3) reveals transgression (Gal 3:19), (4) conducts to Christ (Gal 3:24). Now that you are in Christ, what has replaced the Law as your guide? Read Romans 8:14 and Galatians 5:18. What does it mean to be 'led by the Spirit' rather than under the Law?

Prayer: Lord, the Law did its job — it showed me I was a sinner who needed a Savior, and it brought me to Christ. Now I am in Him, led by Your Spirit, not chained to a schoolmaster. Thank You for the freedom of grace. Amen.
