Post #66: The Lord's Prayer – Kingdom, Not Grace | KJV Right Division (Week 3)

Post 66 · Israel's Feasts – Types Fulfilled in Christ (Col 2:16-17)

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." — Colossians 2:16-17 (KJV)
Who? Gentile believers in Colossae being pressured to observe Jewish feasts — Paul declares they are shadows; Christ is the substance.
Dispensation: Grace Age — the feasts were Israel's types of Christ; believers are not obligated to observe them but can learn from their typological richness.
Key: Shadow vs. body: the feasts were shadows (outlines) of coming realities; Christ is the body (substance) that cast those shadows.

Israel's seven feasts (Leviticus 23) were not merely religious ceremonies — they were a prophetic calendar pointing to Christ. Passover = Christ's crucifixion (1 Cor 5:7). Unleavened Bread = His sinlessness. Firstfruits = His resurrection (1 Cor 15:20). Pentecost (Weeks) = the coming of the Spirit (Acts 2). Trumpets = the Rapture/Second Coming. Day of Atonement = Israel's national repentance at Christ's return. Tabernacles = the Millennial Kingdom. Every spring feast has been fulfilled; the fall feasts remain future. For Grace-Age believers, Paul is clear: no one is to judge you about observing these feasts. They are shadows; Christ is the reality. We celebrate what they pointed to — the fullness of Christ.

Application: Read 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 — 'Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven... but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.' Paul spiritualizes the feast for Grace-Age believers. What does it mean to 'keep the feast' in this spiritual sense? How do the spring feasts (Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Pentecost) map onto Christ's completed work? What do the fall feasts tell us about what is still coming?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, every feast was a shadow of You. Passover Lamb — You. Firstfruits — You. The whole calendar proclaimed Your glory before You came. Help us to see You on every page of the Old Testament and worship You as the Substance every shadow promised. Amen.
