Post #68: James – To the Twelve Tribes | KJV Right Division (Week 3)
Post 68 · The Remnant of Israel (Rom 11:5)
"Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace." — Romans 11:5 (KJV)
Who? Paul — himself a Jew (v.1) — proving that God has not cast away Israel by pointing to the believing Jewish remnant in every age.
Dispensation: Grace Age — a remnant of Israel believes today; national Israel will be saved at the end (Rom 11:26).
Key: Remnant = a faithful minority within the nation who believe in every generation; God always preserves a believing Jewish remnant even during national apostasy.

When Elijah complained that he alone was left (1 Kings 19:14), God replied: 'I have reserved to myself seven thousand men' (v.18). Paul uses this precedent: throughout Israel's history, a faithful remnant has always existed — not because of their merit but 'according to the election of grace.' In Paul's day, Jewish believers like himself formed this remnant (Acts 21:20; Rom 11:1). Today, Jewish believers in Jesus are the present remnant of Israel. But the remnant is not all of Israel — national Israel remains in partial blindness (Rom 11:25). That blindness will lift 'until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in,' after which 'all Israel shall be saved' (Rom 11:26) at the Second Coming.
Application: Read Romans 11:1-10. Paul proves God has not rejected Israel with three arguments: (1) Paul himself is a Jew and believes (v.1), (2) God foreknew Israel and preserving them (v.2), (3) the Elijah remnant precedent (v.4-5). Then read Romans 11:25-27 — Israel's future mass turning to Christ. In God's plan, what is the sequence: Church Age → Rapture → Tribulation → Second Coming → Israel saved. How does knowing this future affect how you pray for and relate to Jewish people today?

Prayer: God of the remnant, You have always preserved a faithful seed in Israel. We pray for Jewish people today — that the blindness would lift, that they would see their Messiah, and that the full number would come in. Hasten the day. Amen.
