Post #72: Daniel's 70 Weeks – Israel's Program | KJV Right Division (Week 3)
Post 72 · Christ: The End of the Law (Rom 10:4)
"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." — Romans 10:4 (KJV)
Who? Paul explaining to Jewish believers why the Law cannot produce righteousness — Christ ends the Law's role as righteousness-seeker.
Dispensation: Grace Age — Christ fulfilled and terminated the Law's role as the righteousness-producing system; faith replaces works.
Key: "End" (τέλος) = goal or termination; Christ is both the fulfillment (goal) of what the Law pointed to AND the termination of the Law as the righteousness system.

Romans 10:4 is a pivotal verse in Pauline theology. 'Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.' The Greek τέλος means goal or termination — and both senses apply. Christ is the GOAL of the Law: everything the Law pointed to (the sacrifices, the priesthood, the feasts) found its fulfillment in Him. And He is the TERMINATION of the Law as the righteousness-producing system: for those who believe, the Law is no longer the court before which they must be judged righteous. Christ's perfect obedience and substitutionary death satisfied the Law completely (Col 2:14 — 'blotting out the handwriting of ordinances'). Believing in Christ is the new pathway to righteousness — freely given, fully accomplished.
Application: Read Romans 10:1-13 as a unit. Notice the contrast: Israel's righteousness was their own (v.3 — 'their own righteousness'), Christ provides 'the righteousness of God' (v.3). The Law-based path is described in v.5 (do and live); the faith-based path in vv.6-10 (confess and believe). What does 'confess with thy mouth' and 'believe in thine heart' (v.9) contribute to a correct understanding of how a person receives the righteousness Christ provides?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You fulfilled every demand of the Law and became the end of it for us. We no longer stand before the Law trying to satisfy it — we stand in You, who already satisfied it. Let this truth free us from every remaining performance-based anxiety. Amen.
