Post #74: The Two Witnesses Explained | KJV Right Division (Week 3)
Post 74 · The Temple – Past, Present, Future
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" — 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV)
Dispensation: Grace Age — the physical Temple in Jerusalem was the OT type; now the believer's body (individually) and the church (corporately) are the temple.
Key: Temple types: (1) OT — God's presence in stone and wood; (2) Jesus — 'destroy this temple' (John 2:19); (3) Grace Age — the believer's body and the corporate Body; (4) Future — tribulation temple; (5) Millennial — Ezekiel's temple.
The concept of the temple traces through Scripture in five phases. The Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple housed God's Shekinah presence in the Old Covenant. Jesus declared Himself the true Temple (John 2:19-21) — the ultimate meeting place between God and man. In the Grace Age, the Holy Spirit indwells every believer's body (1 Cor 6:19) and the corporate church is God's temple (Eph 2:21-22; 1 Cor 3:16-17). During the Tribulation, a rebuilt Jerusalem Temple will be desecrated by the Antichrist (2 Thess 2:4 — Matt 24:15). In the Millennium, Ezekiel's glorious temple will be the center of worship during Christ's reign (Ezek 40-48). Understanding these phases prevents confusion about whether God needs a physical temple today (He does not — He lives in us).
