Post #77: The Sabbath – Israel's Sign | KJV Right Division (Week 3)

Post 77 · The Times of the Gentiles (Luke 21:24)

"And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." — Luke 21:24 (KJV)
Who? Jesus speaking to His disciples about the coming destruction of Jerusalem (70 AD) and its connection to the broader 'times of the Gentiles.'
Dispensation: Transition → Future — the 'times of the Gentiles' began with Nebuchadnezzar (605 BC), includes the present Church Age, and ends with Christ's return and the re-establishment of Davidic rule.
Key: "Times of the Gentiles" = the period from Nebuchadnezzar's conquest of Jerusalem to Christ's return, during which Gentile powers dominate Jerusalem.

The 'times of the Gentiles' is a dispensational landmark. It began when Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem (605 BC) and took Daniel captive — Gentile world powers began ruling over God's holy city. Daniel's image (Dan 2) and four beasts (Dan 7) trace these Gentile powers: Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome. Jesus in Luke 21:24 declares Jerusalem will be 'trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.' This period includes the current Church Age — not specifically in view in the prophets because it is a mystery. The times of the Gentiles conclude at Christ's Second Coming when He reclaims Jerusalem and establishes David's throne. The Church Age is embedded within the times of the Gentiles but is distinct from it.

Application: Read Daniel 2:31-45 — the image of Gentile kingdoms from Babylon to the end. Notice the stone 'cut without hands' that destroys the image and fills the whole earth (v.44-45) — this is Christ's Kingdom at His return. Now read Romans 11:25 — the Church Age ends when the fullness of the Gentiles comes in. How do the 'times of the Gentiles' (Gentile political dominance) and the 'fullness of the Gentiles' (Gentile spiritual completion) relate to each other on the prophetic calendar?

Prayer: Lord of history, You rule over every Gentile empire. From Babylon to Rome to the powers of today — all are under Your sovereign hand. Hasten the day when Your Kingdom replaces all earthly kingdoms and Jerusalem is trodden down no more. Amen.
