Post #81: The Millennial Reign and Israel's Role | KJV Right Division (Week 3)
Post 81 · Israel's Prophets – The Sure Word (2 Pet 1:19)
"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts." — 2 Peter 1:19 (KJV)
Who? Peter writing to Jewish believers — affirming the certainty of Old Testament prophecy, now confirmed by the Transfiguration eyewitness account.
Dispensation: Transition/Grace — prophecy is a sure light; we take heed to it until the prophetic day fully dawns at Christ's return.
Key: "More sure" — the written word of prophecy is even more reliable than an eyewitness experience (Peter's Transfiguration), because it comes from God's own breath.

Peter's statement that prophecy is a 'more sure word' than his Transfiguration eyewitness experience is striking. He had seen Jesus glorified on the mount with his own eyes (vv.16-18). Yet he says the prophetic word is MORE sure — because it is God-breathed (2 Tim 3:16), not dependent on human perception or memory. This is a high view of Scripture. Old Testament prophecy concerning Israel is certain: the restoration, the Kingdom, the Messiah's reign — all as sure as the sun rising. Peter describes prophecy as 'a light that shineth in a dark place' — as the world grows darker, the prophetic word shines more brightly, giving orientation and hope. Dispensational study of prophecy is not speculative — it is heeding a more sure word.
Application: Read 2 Peter 1:19-21. Notice: prophecy does not come from human will (v.21) but holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. The source is divine; the accuracy is guaranteed. Pick one unfulfilled Old Testament prophecy about Israel (e.g., Amos 9:14-15; Ezek 36:24-28; Isa 11:11-12) and meditate on it as a sure word — not a possibility but a certainty. What does treating unfulfilled prophecy as sure truth do to your confidence in God?

Prayer: Lord, Your prophetic Word is a lamp in our darkness. When the world is confused about Israel, the Middle East, and the future, Your Word gives clarity. Help us to hold fast to the sure word of prophecy and be lights who point others to it. Amen.
