Post #83: Acts 28 – Paul Turns to the Gentiles | KJV Right Division (Week 3)

Post 83 · Daniel's Four Kingdoms and the Fifth (Dan 2:44)

"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever." — Daniel 2:44 (KJV)
Who? Daniel interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream — revealing God's overview of Gentile history from Babylon to the eternal Kingdom.
Dispensation: Future Kingdom — the four kingdoms (Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome) will be followed by God's eternal Kingdom at Christ's return.
Key: The stone 'cut without hands' = Christ's Kingdom at the Second Coming; it destroys all human kingdoms and fills the whole earth with God's eternal rule.

Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the image (Dan 2:31-35) and Daniel's interpretation give us the whole sweep of Gentile world history in prophetic overview. Four empires: gold (Babylon), silver (Persia/Medes), bronze (Greece), iron and clay (Rome — extended through the revived Roman Empire of the Antichrist). Then the stone cut without hands — not human in origin, not military in method — strikes the image and fills the whole earth. This is Christ's Kingdom at the Second Coming: not imposed through human politics or gradual Christian influence but by divine intervention, sudden and total. Every human kingdom will give way to God's eternal Kingdom. This was not fulfilled at Christ's first coming (Rome was not destroyed) — it awaits His return.

Application: Read Daniel 2:31-45. Map the four kingdoms to their historical counterparts. Then focus on v.44: the Kingdom comes 'in the days of these kings' — a revived form of the Roman empire (iron mixed with clay = ethnic diversity without unity, as in modern Europe). What does Daniel's dream tell you about where history is heading? How does knowing the end of the story affect how you live in the middle chapters?

Prayer: God of heaven, You set up kingdoms and take them down. Every empire of history has bowed to Your purpose. And the Stone is coming — Your eternal Kingdom that no human force can resist. Help us to live as citizens of that Kingdom now, even while we wait for it to fill the earth. Amen.
