Post #89: Ephesians – Riches of Grace (ch.1) | KJV Right Division (Week 4)

Post 89 · Ephesians – Our Position in Christ

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." — Ephesians 1:3 (KJV)
Who? Gentile believers in Ephesus — and by extension, every member of the Body of Christ across all time.
Dispensation: Grace Age — Ephesians is the fullest revelation of the mystery: the Body of Christ's identity, position, and calling in heavenly places.
Key: Ephesians themes: chosen, adopted, redeemed (1), reconciled, one new man (2), mystery revealed (3), unity of the Body (4), walking worthy (5), family and work (5-6), armor of God (6).

Ephesians is the pinnacle of Paul's mystery revelation. It is addressed to 'the saints which are at Ephesus AND to the faithful in Christ Jesus' — likely a circular letter to all churches in Asia Minor. Its opening (1:3-14) is a single sentence in Greek — a breathless cascade of every spiritual blessing 'in heavenly places in Christ.' Chapters 1-3 establish position (what we are in Christ); chapters 4-6 establish practice (how we walk). The key phrase is 'in Christ' — occurring over 30 times. Everything we have, everything we are, everything we will be is located 'in Christ.' Ephesians gives the Body of Christ its identity card — and that identity is defined entirely by its relationship to Christ the Head.

Application: Read Ephesians 1:3-14 slowly, counting every blessing listed. Chosen (v.4), adopted (v.5), accepted in the Beloved (v.6), redeemed (v.7), forgiven (v.7), all wisdom (v.8-9), purposed in Christ (v.10), inheritance (v.11), sealed with the Spirit (v.13-14). Notice: ALL these blessings are PAST TENSE — already given, already received, 'in Christ.' How many of these blessings are you living in conscious awareness of daily? Choose one to meditate on this week.

Prayer: Blessed Father, You have blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Not some — ALL. Not borrowed — given. Not conditional — secured. Let us live today in the full reality of what we already possess in Your Son. Amen.
