Post #9: Acts 2 vs. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – Two Gospels? | KJV Right Division (Week 1)

Post 9 · Acts 2 vs. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – Two Gospels?

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." — Acts 2:38 (KJV)
Who? Peter preaching to Jews at Pentecost — a Kingdom offer under the transitional Acts period.
Dispensation: Transitional (Acts 2) vs. fully-revealed Grace Age (1 Cor 15) — understanding the shift is essential.
Key: Acts 2:38 adds repentance and baptism; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 defines the saving gospel as faith alone in Christ's death, burial, resurrection.

Acts 2:38 is one of the most debated verses in Christendom. Peter commands repentance and baptism 'for the remission of sins.' Yet Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 defines the gospel without baptism, and in 1 Corinthians 1:17 explicitly separates himself from baptism. The resolution lies in dispensational distinction: Peter's Pentecost sermon was a Kingdom offer to Israel, still under the Acts transitional period. Paul's gospel, revealed later by the risen Christ, is the fully-revealed Grace-Age message. Baptism was a Jewish sign (of transition from the old to the new — John's to Jesus's). For the Body of Christ today, we have one baptism — spiritual (1 Cor 12:13) — and one gospel: faith in Christ's finished work.

Application: Read Acts 2:38; Acts 10:43; Romans 10:9-10; and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Note what each adds or omits. Which elements remain consistent across all four? Which are unique to the Jewish/transitional context? Construct the core saving message.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that salvation is by grace through faith — not of works, not of ceremony, not of baptism. Help us to hold fast to this simple, glorious gospel. Amen.
