Post #92: Colossians – Christ Is All in All | KJV Right Division (Week 4)
Post 92 · 1 Thessalonians – The Rapture and Daily Life
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." — 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (KJV)
Dispensation: Grace Age — 1 Thessalonians is the first of Paul's letters written and the first complete revelation of the Rapture doctrine.
Key: 1 Thessalonians themes: model church (1), Paul's ministry (2), Timothy's report (3), the Rapture (4), the Day of the Lord (5), practical holiness (5).
1 Thessalonians is likely Paul's earliest letter, written to a very new church just months after its founding. The Thessalonians had turned from idols to serve the living God and to 'wait for his Son from heaven' (1:9-10). Their question was about believers who had died — had they missed the Rapture? Paul's answer introduces the full Rapture doctrine (4:13-18): the dead in Christ rise first, living saints are caught up, all meet the Lord in the air. This comfort is then extended to the 'times and seasons' (5:1-11): the Day of the Lord comes as a thief in the night, but believers are not in darkness — we are 'children of light' who should not be caught off guard. The Rapture is the anchor of Grace-Age hope and the motivation for Grace-Age holiness.
