Post #93: 1 Thessalonians – The Rapture Chapter | KJV Right Division (Week 4)
Post 93 · 2 Thessalonians – The Man of Sin Revealed
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God." — 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (KJV)
Who? Thessalonian believers shaken by a false report that the Day of the Lord had already come — Paul corrects them with the sequence of end-time events.
Dispensation: Grace Age → future Tribulation — the man of sin (Antichrist) cannot be revealed while 'he who letteth' (the restrainer — Holy Spirit/Church) remains (v.6-7).
Key: The Restrainer (v.6-7) holds back the Antichrist's revelation; when the Church is raptured and the Spirit's restraining ministry through the Church is removed, the man of sin is revealed.

2 Thessalonians 2 is the key prophetic passage connecting the Rapture to the Tribulation. Someone had told the Thessalonians that the 'Day of the Lord' (the Tribulation) had already begun — terrifying them. Paul says no: that day cannot come until (1) the apostasy/falling away comes, and (2) the man of sin is revealed. But the man of sin is currently being restrained — by 'he who letteth' (v.7) — likely the Holy Spirit working through the Church (the corporate Body). When the Body is removed at the Rapture, the restrainer's ministry through it is removed, and the Antichrist is revealed. This confirms the pre-Tribulation Rapture: the Church must be removed before the Tribulation can begin.
Application: Read 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12. Notice the sequence: (1) the Rapture ('our gathering together unto him' v.1), (2) the restrainer removed (v.7), (3) the Antichrist revealed (v.8), (4) his lying signs and wonders (v.9-10), (5) those who rejected truth are given strong delusion (v.11). What does the fact that truth-rejection precedes strong delusion tell you about how deception works? How does this make the current age — before the Tribulation — the critical time to receive and hold the truth?

Prayer: Lord, we live in the age when the Restrainer still holds back the full revelation of evil. Thank You for the Church as a salt and light that restrains darkness. Help us to be faithful in this role until You come. And when You come — quickly, Lord. Amen.
