Sanctification by Grace – God Does the Work | 1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV

Week 2 · Day 13-3 · 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

— 1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV

Paul's prayer for sanctification is addressed to God — not to the believers' effort. The very God of peace sanctify you wholly. God is the sanctifier. We are not sanctified by trying harder to keep the Law. We are sanctified by the God of peace working through His indwelling Spirit.

✂ Right Division

Sanctification has two aspects in Paul's letters: positional (you are already sanctified in Christ — 1 Corinthians 1:2) and progressive (God works in you to will and to do — Philippians 2:13). Both are God's work. Your part is yielding, not striving.

✦ Application

Yield yourself to the God of peace today. He is able to sanctify you wholly. What you cannot accomplish through effort, He accomplishes through His own working in you. That is grace-based sanctification.
