Sermon on the Mount – Kingdom Ethics, Not Church Doctrine | KJV
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
— Matthew 5:17 KJVThe Sermon on the Mount is glorious — but it is misapplied when treated as the Church's standard of justification. Jesus delivered it as the ethics of the coming Kingdom, intensifying the Law to show Israel that no one could meet God's standard apart from grace.
Matthew 5:20 — Except your righteousness shall exceed the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter the kingdom. This is Kingdom standard. For the Church: Romans 3:28 — justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Read the Sermon on the Mount and marvel at Christ's perfection and the standard He embodies. But stand on Paul's Gospel of grace — not the Sermon's Law-intensified standard — for your righteousness before God.
