The Sabbath – Shadow or Substance? Colossians 2:16-17 KJV

Week 2 · Day 9-4 · 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV

“Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

— Colossians 2:17 KJV

The Sabbath was a shadow. The substance — the reality casting the shadow — is Christ. Israel observed the Sabbath as a covenant sign — Exodus 31:17 — between God and Israel specifically. No Gentile nation was ever commanded to observe the Sabbath as a covenant obligation.

✂ Right Division

In Christ, we have entered the true Sabbath rest — Hebrews 4:9-10. Not a day of the week but a rest of faith: he that is entered into his rest hath ceased from his own works. Every day is Sabbath when you rest in Christ's finished work.

✦ Application

You are not obligated to observe a Sabbath day. But you are invited to rest in Christ every moment — the true Sabbath rest of completed salvation. Stop working for what has already been freely given.
